thanks to dna fingerprinting, in addition to the very serious business of solving crimes, we are now able to trace the genetics and origins of wine varietals. researchers have discovered that the pinot grapes (noir, blanc, gris, meunier...) are all related and stem (pardon the pun) from one ancestral wine family. its resilience, coupled with its arduous growing process, make it a serious contender for cross breeding, hybrids or mutations. from chardonnay (its natural cousin from their native burgundy) to the unknown melon de bourgogne for the white varietals, to the red classic new zealand pinot noir and st. laurent (the so-called "austrian pinot noir”), please enjoy hopping around the world accompanied by a grape with very deep roots ...
